What is a TentBox?

A TentBox is a rooftop tent that attaches to the top of a vehicle via roof bars, designed to make camping and travel easier. This incredible tent is built inside its own ‘shell’, so all you need to do is open it up from its place on your vehicle. TentBoxes come in various models, but each allows for two to four people to sleep comfortably and provides storage, accessories, and a soft foam mattress.

Inspired by the first car roof tent invented in 1956, English brothers Ollie and Neill envisioned bringing roof tents into popularity while they travelled across France in 2014. By 2015, they’d developed their first prototypes to fit all vehicles and started selling them in the UK out of a garage.

By 2017, their small business had grown enough that they required a warehouse, and from then on, TentBox grew by leaps and bounds. They expanded their range, moved to a larger headquarters, and entered the U.S. market with a warehouse on the East Coast.

The story of TentBox is an inspiring one, and if you’ve not heard of TentBoxes yet, then this post is going to introduce you to your new favourite camping companion.

TentBox benefits

Let’s talk about why we love TentBox and how it’ll help improve your camping and travel experience.

1. Lightweight and compact design

TentBoxes are designed to be attached to the top of your vehicle without weighing it down. You don’t need to worry about the box causing any issues as you drive, as it fixes safely and securely without slowing your journey.

Most designs of this rooftop tent fit within the dimensions of almost all road vehicles, allowing you to utilise it even in small zones. Instead of paying for a pitch in a campsite and surrounding yourself with other campers, you can now sleep safely wherever you park. This could be a car park at the start of a hiking trail or in a space near the beach; any parking space that is public and legal becomes a possible campground for the night with a TentBox.

2. Quick to open and close

Every single TentBox model is incredibly quick to open and close. The timing differs depending on which you choose, but each one is as efficient as they come.

TentBox GO: Versatile, lightweight, affordable and stripped back, this model takes 60 seconds to open. Simply climb the included ladder, lift up the roof, and fix it into place with the internal supporting arms.

TentBox Lite 2.0: This comfortable, spacious rooftop tent can be put up in just 3 to 5 minutes. Take off the cover, pull out the attached ladder, use the ladder to pull the tent open and into place, and then prop up the rest.

TentBox Lite XL: Similar to the Lite 2.0 but maximised for the ultimate comfort, the Lite XL also requires approximately 5 minutes to set up.

TentBox Classic 2.0: Essentially a mini bedroom on wheels, the Classic 2.0 can be set up in just 30 seconds. All you have to do is undo the buckles holding it together, then gently push each end. The built-in gas struts will do the rest.

TentBox Cargo 1.0 and 2.0: The fastest models of the lot, the Cargo opens in only 30 seconds. Simply undo the clips and push up one side of the top of the shell so that the gas struts can do the work. This tent also has a strap to help you pull the tent back down into place in seconds.

3. High-quality materials

TentBoxes are designed to keep you warm and dry when out in the wild, so the materials chosen in their creation have been specially selected to do just that. Weather-resistant rip-stop polyester keeps the rain out and your body heat in, creating the perfect cosy environment for sleeping, stargazing and relaxing.

4. Included accessories

While each model includes different accessories, they are all designed to suit their TentBox. These accessories include built-in storage pockets, aluminium ladders, LED light bars, string lights, and much more. Every model includes a thick and comfortable foam mattress for a comfortable night of sleep, with the option to buy a memory foam mattress topper for the ultimate snooze.
